Since version 3.0, the VICE emulator features a SuperCPU emulation called xscpu64. Now it is possible to play Metal Dust with this emulator (you need a 1581 JiffyDOS-Image (commercial)). Link to VICE with SuperCPU support: http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/index.html#download/

How many discs does the game consist of ??

how many d81 files are there?

Is only the download of the d81 files provided, or are there other formats in which the game can be downloaded?

Is there also a physical version?

Howdy, folks. I have a really weird question you may not be able to answer. But you might! I have a Super CPU 64, but it doesn't have a memory card. But I also have a RAMlink, which has 16MB of memory. I also have a CMD 2MB RAM cartridge. Do you think I'd be able to play this game? Or am I out of luck until I find a SCPU RAM-specific solution?

Best,

E

Can this be played using a rad expansion unit and a sd2iec? The rad enable ram upgrade upto 16mb? Using rasp pi2

Thought as it could run sonic it could run this?

Hard game 😎

oh boy you will like my game missed call

Thank-you for publishing this digital version as my original disk 1 got corrupted. It would be interesting if we could have a Metal Dust world championship or some other competition. I'm currently on level 3 on "Easy" (15 lives per continue). Also, fun fact, to enable the built-in cheat mode, just listen to the music on the title screen for a few minutes, then you have an option that allows up to 99 lives per continue.

Can this be played with the Ultimate 64 / Ultimate 64 Elite with the latest kernel that allows 20MHz and RAM up to 16MB?

Unfortunately, no. The Ultimate does not emulate a SuperCPU currently. Only a real SuperCPU or VICE can run Metal Dust to this date.

do you have to buy that jiffy image in otder to play this game?

Yes, you'll need a 1581 JiffyDos image.

It should also use the Kernal loader, and not require JiffyDOS on the drive. Is that correct?

Can this run the turbo chameleons

No, Turbo Chameleon has no SuperCPU core. To date, only a real SuperCPU or VICE can run Metal Dust.

Can this be ran from a C64 Mini?

Hi there,

nope. The C64 Mini is not capable of emulating a SuperCPU. It can be played with Windows or WINE and Vice 3.1+ (Emulator is included).

Thx for the reply, Hopefully they add SuperCPU support in a firmware update! Bought it anyways, game is hard as balls! And amazing, nice work!

Unfortunately TheC64 Mini probably isn't a powerful enough system to emulate a SuperCPU. The full-sized system might be. However, it is unlikely that there will be an official SCPU firmware upgrade or update as Retro Games Limited will probably not want to pay to licence it.

That's disappointing but good to have some closure on the matter I suppose!

Is this available on the 64 Maxi? I see they are D81 files and these can be played on a normal 64 but that doesn't have the power. Just been reviewed in Zzap64! micro 2023

No, the Maxi cannot emulate a 20Mhz SuperCPU.
